MSU will host Michigan in the second round of the CCHA Playoffs, a best-of-three series starting March 12. The winner advances to a CCHA Semifinal on March 19 at Detroit.
Updated 3/9/10...

Spartan fans can only imagine what excitement will take place in Munn Ice Arena when we "welcome" the Michigan Wolverines this weekend for a best-of-three quarterfinal series of CCHA playoffs. All games will be at 7:00 PM and Comcast will provide television coverage on Friday and Saturday (no TV on Sunday if a third game is necessary). MSU and UM have not met this early in playoffs for 23 years, as Neli Koepke describes for us here. Complete CCHA playoff information is on the league website. MSU Blue Line Club members are encouraged to be at Munn Ice Arena for both/all games. Tell all Spartan hockey fans you know to get a ticket and support our Spartans. We know it's on TV, so set the DVR and go to Munn! Students are on Spring Break and we know Michigan fans are buying tickets, hoping to fill the arena with noise and those ugly colors. They are always rowdy and we need as much Green-and-White as possible in our building. Tickets are available online and by phone (517-355-1610), or go to the Spartan Ticket Office.

"Inside the CCHA Radio" this week previews the four weekend playoff series. They spoke with our Co-captain Nick Sucharski for insight into the UM-MSU match-up. You will enjoy listening to Nick (online or podcast here) as he recalls the rivalry with UM this season and throughout his Spartan career.

The MSU Alumni Association is hosting a Pep Rally before Saturday's game. It will be in the Spartan Club (4th Floor, Spartan Stadium) from 4:45 to 6:15 PM. The program will begin at 5:00 and will include Coach Comley, Shelley Appelbaum, Sparty, and the MSU Cheerleaders. A taco buffet and cash bar will be provided. (Basketball on TV if MSU is playing at that time.) There will be an admission charge to cover costs ($10 dollars for Alumni Association and Spartan Fund members; $15 for non-members). Advance registration is required. You can click here to register or get more information.

Catching up on Spartan hockey news includes a note that MSU is ranked 10th and 11th in the national polls this week and 12th (on March 9) in the PairWise Ratings. Drew Palmisano is the Spartan's representative on the CCHA Team of Scholar-Athletes, one of whom will be selected as CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The 2010 CCHA Awards will be presented March 18 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. This event is open to the public. Tickets can be obtained from the CCHA office. Torey Krug is on the CCHA All-Rookie Team, and Derek Grant is in the Honorable Mention group.

The 2010 NCAA Frozen Four takes place at Ford Field in Detroit April 8 and 10. Interest is building across the college hockey world. If you want to follow the action and opinions leading up to this great event, we have links on the National News/Polls page to websites you will find interesting. When you look at the CHN PairWise page, you will see explanations of that rating system as well as the selection process for NCAA regional pairings.

We hope you'll join Spartan fans and MSU Blue Line Club members at Munn Ice Arena and share the excitement this weekend. GO GREEN!
