MSU beat Michigan Friday night in East Lansing. Updated 2/2/10... Last weekend's split with Michigan wasn't as good as the season sweep we hoped for, but it did not lack for excitement and suspense. We should keep Coach Renfrew's message this week in mind and enjoy this Spartan team as it develops. We probably shouldn't torment our opponents, but you might like to read the whining from The Michigan Daily about the series. Torey Krug's efforts and three assists for the weekend earned him the honor of CCHA Rookie of the Week. The media get real active the week before UM and MSU meet and The State News gives us background few of us knew about defensemen Matt Grassi and Zach Josepher. Jeff Petry was the focus ofa story in The Detroit News. The Spartan team leaves Wednesday AM for Alaska-Fairbanks and will be on the ice for a 11:00 PM faceoff Friday (on Radio 1240AM at 10:30 PM). Saturday's game is 10:00 PM (on Radio 730 AM, and Comcast TV Digital Channel 900 in the Lansing area). [All times shown here are East Lansing time.] Alaska is trying to get their season back on track (1-4-3 in January) while MSU, ranked 12th in both national polls this week, needs the points to remain 2nd in the CCHA standings. We have two more league games than does Ferris State and we are only one point ahead of them. They will play LSSU on February 12 and 13 when MSU has a weekend off. The long talked-about outdoor game at Michigan Stadium was anounced last week. MSU will play UM Saturday, December 11 in the "Big Chill at the Big House." We'll just have to wait and see what the attendance (and the temperature) will be, so mark your calendar. Michigan will play Wisconsin outdoors this Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium. You can get info on this game here and see it on the Big Ten Network at 6:00 PM. The MSU Hockey Awards banquet is Wednesday, March 3 at Kellogg Center. If you did not receive a ticket application in the mail, please call the hockey office at 355-1639. The Coach's Clinic for MSU Blue Line Club members has just a few openings remaining. It is 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 10 at Munn Ice Arena. Our coaches will explain the systems of play that have contributed to MSU's success this season, and we will tour the teams facilities.
